A question regularly asked by clients is “how often should I wash my hair?”

The short answer is less the better, your hair follicle has something called a sebatous gland which produces oil which moisturises your hair and scalp naturally. The more often you shampoo your hair, which removes all the natural oils, the more the glands are fighting to produce more oil to give your hair and scalp the natural moisture it needs.

A common myth is the more you wash your hair the less “greasy “ it will be. Quite the opposite. The more you wash the oil you produce. Therefore, the less you wash it less oil production will occur.

An ideal amount to wash your hair is once a week, this will let your scalp do it’s thing and have a normal moisture balance. However certain circumstances like swimming (where you need to remove the chlorine because that’s not good for your hair!) you do need to shampoo after.

If you have concerns about your hair or scalp ask your stylist they will be able to advise you on what to use.
