What's worse for the condition of your hair, heat or colouring?

The simple answer is heat.

Most clients I see in my chair who have problems with hair damage or breakage is too much heat. Biggest culprit, irons. Too often and too hot.

Let me explain. Your hair has two crucial layers to it. Cuticle, which is the outer layer is the "hard" part of your hair which is also the hair's defence against environment, brushing and colouring.

Too much heat like having irons or tongs too hot and/or too often starts breaking down that layer, causing dryness and breakage, which also effects your colouring services. colouring works on the cortex of the hair which contains the hairs colour pigments natural or artificial. If the hair has lost or damaged it's hard layer any kind of colouring service will cause further damage and not the colour result you wanted.

So in conclusion if you want great condition for your hair, use less and lower heat! Your colour (natural or artificial) will thank you. Don't get me wrong, too much colouring/bleaching also isn't good for the hair either because that can break down the outer layer but if you forced to state which is worse I will always pick heat.
